Hello fellow readers and bloggers! Yesterday on the 28th of March, the Google recruiting team came to Monash to talk about all things Google and their graduate and internship programs. It was a really interesting and insightful talk they did, and I was really fascinated by the amount of products that are under the Google name, such as YouTube, Android, Google Maps, Calendar, Drive and more!
An interesting topic that Google talked about was how they help businesses create an online platform. In their talk, they mentioned how keywords that are relevant to the business should be included on the their website, in order to be found by the public when ‘google searching.’
In their talk they showed statistics stating that people are more likely (82%) to use a search engine when looking for a local business.
They also stated that digital skills has increased by 212% since 2013! Increasing more than critical thinking and creativity.
By helping businesses market their brand online, Google has been able to profit through the use of ‘AdWords ads.’ AdWords is an advertising model that businesses use as a marketing strategy to be seen more favourable (being listed higher) than other businesses in a ‘google search.’ This model is beneficial for businesses as they only pay when someone clicks on the their ad (PPC).
As seen from images above, a substantial amount on Tuesday was about was about businesses moving to the online platform. Why did they talk to us about this? Because many of the Google employee’s jobs were to seek out local businesses and help them go online, as it will be beneficial for both the business and Google.
On another note, the recruiting team also talked about Google’s ‘ learning online marketing,’ platform called Digital Garage. It’s a great website that contains free courses that help businesses and careers become more affective in digitally marketing their brand. I have personally started the course and find it interesting as the website is interactive and the instructions are easy to understand.
A question to think about, is what more can Google do to improve their digital marketing for businesses online?
